One Dead, Two Missing After Being Washed Away in Canal
Kurnool: Two students went missing, and another lost his life while swimming in the main Sagar canal in Kothapalli, Darsi mandal of Prakasam district. The trio was accidentally swept away by the current, prompting the police to deploy NDRF teams to search for the missing persons.
Three young men—P. Lokesh Reddy, B. Manikantha Reddy, and K. Kiran Kumar Reddy—from Darsi mandal visited the canal on Saturday for a swim but were washed away by the force of the water. Local people who witnessed the incident informed the police, who then alerted the families of the missing students. Police rushed to the scene and began search operations.
The body of Pothyreddy Lokesh Reddy, 19, from Kothapalli, has been recovered. The police have deployed NDRF teams to locate Bathula Manikantha Reddy and Kunduru Kiran Kumar Reddy. Darsi circle inspector Y. Rama Rao stated that they are using NDRF teams to help locate the two young men who drowned in the canal.
He noted that all three people were between 18 and 20 years old. The inspector urged students and the general public to avoid venturing into canals, streams, and other water bodies to ensure their safety. He said efforts are going on to locate the missing youngsters. Darsi police registered a case and are investigating.
