VIJAYAWADA: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan was unanimously elected as the party’s legislature party leader at a meeting of MLAs in Mangalgiri on Tuesday.

At a meeting held at the JS central office, the party’s political affairs committee chairman and Tenali MLA-elect Nadendla Manohar proposed the name of Pawan Kalyan as the JSLP leader. This was unanimously accepted by the MLAs.

Addressing the meeting, Pawan Kalyan said the MLAs should take forward the ethos, values and spirit of the JS and spread these among the masses. “This is not a time for vindictive politics,” he stressed.

Reminding his MLAs that the YSRC government did not honour the people's mandate, Pawan Kalyan said, “The people of AP believed in JS wholeheartedly and gave us an overwhelming victory. This victory should not be used to seek revenge and the party should protect the democratic values.”

Stating that the NDA alliance has promised to provide education, health, irrigation and drinking water besides protecting people and their rights, Pawan Kalyan said, “The JS MLAs should help fulfil these promises. They should identify the key issues in their respective constituencies and devise a plan to solve them on a priority basis. If the issues in the constituencies require central support, we will get it.”

Crediting his party's victory to the efforts of the women cadre (Veera Mahilas) and JS supporters, he said, “The love, admiration and trust of the people have been the fuel for the JS to function over the past decade.”

The JS chief advised his MLAs not to make personal attacks and criticisim in a democracy should be based on facts. “Even if the opposition MLAs resort to personal attacks, we should face it in a democratic manner,” Pawan told his MLAs.

He asked his MLAs to coordinate with the TD and BJP ranks at the ground level, work in the NDA alliance format and strive for development of the people and the state.
