Police failed to control poll violence in AP, says YSRCP MLA Nani

Addressing a press conference, he also blamed the Election Commission of India (ECI) for behaving in a vicious manner during elections. When the TDP leaders were creating terror, the police did not book cases against them and behaved in a biased manner towards YSRCP leaders.

Cases were booked against YSRCP leaders unnecessarily and even after the violence the police failed to handle the situation effectively, he said, alleging that the police prevented the YSRCP followers from casting their vote at several places. The ECI appointed officers allegedly suggested by the NDA alliance parties comprising BJP, TDP and Jana Sena, Nani said.

The police department came to know that the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) was damaged at the polling booth at Palvai gate in Macharla on May 13. “Why the police officials failed to book a case against the MLA Pinneli Ramakrishna Reddy on the same day itself? Why the TDP did not respond on the same day?” he questioned.

In a report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to Director-General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta on post-poll violence, the name of the MLA did not figure. There were reports that the polling was stopped, then why the polling officer did not enter in the logbook.

The ECI responded only when the information was aired on television news channels, he said.
