KURNOOL: Former CID additional SP R Vijay Paul was questioned again in connection with the case of arrest and alleged torture of Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju when he was an MP.

The court had granted the police the permission for a two-day interrogation on Friday and Saturday while he remained on remand. Prakasam district SP Damodar, the investigating officer in the case, did the questioning at his office on both days.

The incident dates back to March 14, 2021, when Raghu Rama Krishna Raju was taken into custody by the police on the orders of the then-government’s officials. Recently, Raju filed a complaint in Guntur, alleging an attempt on his life during his custody, and naming Vijay Paul as the prime suspect (A-1). Following this, the Prakasam SP was asked to investigate the matter.

During the questioning, Vijay Paul was asked about the circumstances surrounding Raju’s condition. Raju, who was healthy and able to walk when arrested, was reportedly injured and unable to walk when put in remand.

Investigators inquired about the injuries, as also who was responsible for them, and the reasons behind the assault. It is alleged that Raju entered the CID office in good health but returned with injuries, and there are claims that four masked persons were involved.

When asked about the identity of the attackers, Vijay Paul reportedly claimed he did not know.

The police team, led by SP Damodar questioned Vijay Paul thoroughly from 10am to 3pm on Saturday. Later, he was taken to a special court in Guntur for further proceedings.
