Preventive Detention Act Enforced Against Habitual Offender in Vizianagaram
Visakhapatnam: The Vizianagaram district Police Department has invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against a 22-year-old repeat offender, marking a significant step in the district's early crime control measures.
Bandi Rajeev, also known as Dadi, a resident of Pool Bagh Colony in Vizianagaram town, was arrested and transferred to Visakhapatnam Central Jail following orders from District Collector B.R. Ambedkar. The accused has been implicated in 12 criminal cases across various police stations in the district over the past three years.
District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal, stated that Rajeev had become a threat to public peace and safety. "The accused has demonstrated a pattern of aggressive behavior, engaging in physical assaults and instigating quarrels over trivial matters," SP Jindal said.
The implementation of the PD Act came after the Vizianagaram 2nd Town Police submitted detailed proposals to the District Police Office, highlighting the accused's history of criminal behaviour. District Collector Ambedkar approved the detention after reviewing evidence of Rajeev's activities and their impact on social harmony.
In a stern warning to other potential offenders, SP Jindal emphasized that the department would maintain strict vigilance on individuals with criminal histories. "Whether it's chain snatching, robbery, illegal transportation of narcotics, or land encroachment, we will not hesitate to take decisive action against those who threaten public safety," he said.
Officials confirmed that regular assessments would be conducted on individuals with criminal records, and case files would be maintained to ensure proper monitoring and swift action when necessary.
