Tirupati: An apparent protocol lapse during the District Development Review Committee (DRC) meeting at Nellore’s Zilla Parishad office on Sunday led MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy to walk out in protest. The incident occurred when district officials, while presenting ceremonial bouquets to ministers Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Dr P. Narayana, and Mohammed Farooq, inadvertently overlooked Vemireddy, who was present on stage. Feeling slighted, he left the venue with his wife and Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy.
In an effort to resolve the situation, endowments minister Ramanarayana Reddy and urban development minister Narayana followed him off the stage, urging him to return. Anam expressed visible displeasure over the oversight and extended an apology, describing the incident as an unintentional error. “We all apologise to Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy for this incident. I urge the district collector to ensure such mistakes do not recur,” Anam stated, emphasising the importance of respecting elected representatives. “This oversight in no way reflects our regard for MP Prabhakar Reddy’s contributions to the party and the region,” he added.
TD MLAs, including Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, also reached out to Vemireddy to clarify that the incident was unintended. Other TD leaders formally apologised to the MP. Anam directed officials to strictly uphold protocol at future events, highlighting the need for mutual respect among coalition leaders and officials to maintain unity.
