QR code ticketing initiative starts at Waltair Division

Visakhapatnam:The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has introduced QR code-based ticketing across all Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) locations within its jurisdiction.

This innovative initiative allows rail passengers to conveniently make digital payments using popular UPI-based apps when purchasing tickets at stations. The move is in alignment with the Indian Railways' broader mission of promoting a cashless, Digital India ecosystem.

"We have launched extensive awareness campaigns to educate our rail users about this new QR code ticketing facility, passengers can now enjoy a hassle-free digital transaction experience without having to stand in queues at ticket counters, said Saurabh Prasad, Divisional Railway Manager of Waltair. "

The QR code technology not only simplifies the ticket booking process but also benefits last-minute travellers. Passengers who decide to purchase unreserved tickets at the eleventh hour can now do so digitally, saving valuable time he added.

Additionally, the QR code system has been integrated into the ticket checking process. Railway officials equipped with handheld terminals can now instantly allow passengers to settle fines by simply scanning the QR code displayed on their devices.

The QR code facility has also been extended to other services like parking and food counters, enabling passengers to complete their transactions effortlessly by scanning the designated codes.
