Visakhapatnam: The North Andhra region is bracing for heavy rainfall as a low-pressure area has formed over the central and adjoining northern Bay of Bengal.

IMD said the low-pressure system developed on Thursday under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal. “This low-pressure area will move west-northwest and is expected to intensify into a depression over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by August 30,” it said.

As it approaches the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated, particularly on August 30 and 31.

IMD forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts in north coastal AP on August 30 and 31. An orange alert has been issued for the region. The districts that would be impacted majorly are Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharamraju, BR Ambedkar Konaseema, and West Godavari.

Residents are advised to stay alert, as the weather system may bring thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of up to 40 km/h. Rainfall has already started affecting the region, with significant precipitation reported in various districts.
