Rains: Huge Damage to Crops, Trees Uprooted Due to Rains in Anantapur and Kadapa

 Anantapur: Heavy rains lashed many parts of Anantapur and Kadapa areas since Sunday night, causing huge damage to existing crops and uprooting a large number of trees.

This and overflow of water onto the main roads disrupted traffic in many areas. A tunnel of Tungabhadra High Level Main Canal got breached at Cherlopalli in D.Hirehal mandal of Anantapur district and water inundated crops in the surrounding areas.

About 91mm of rainfall was recorded in Bommanahal mandal and D Hirehal mandal in Rayadurg area. This led to overflowing of canals and small tanks. River Vedavati was in spate and overflowing for the past one week. Roads between Rayadrug-Ballary and Kanekal-Uravakonda were submerged due to heavy rains and floods from upstream Karnataka areas.

In view of the heavy water flow to Hari river, the BT Project in Gummagatta mandal received heavy inflows. Cotton and maize crops were badly damaged in Rayadurg assembly constituency following the rains in recent days.

At least 20 trees were uprooted in Anantapur city due to gusty winds. Civic teams were clearing the mess on the road closer to the JNTUA, where election counting will be held on Tuesday.

Traffic was disrupted on the Kothacheruvu-Puttaparthi road as electric polls were uprooted and water was flowing on the roads. Kadapa district experienced gusty winds and heavy rainfall on Sunday night.
