Kurnool: The Prakasam district police have issued notices to filmmaker P. Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) in connection with posts allegedly defaming prominent political leaders. A team from the Maddipadu police, led by Sub-Inspector Sivaramaiah, delivered the notice to Varma’s residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, on Wednesday.
The case against Varma stems from a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) promoting his film Vyuham ahead of the elections. The post reportedly contained derogatory remarks aimed at then-opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu, his family, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, and TD leader Nara Lokesh. Following a complaint lodged by TD leader M. Ramalingam, a case was registered against Varma.
Another case was filed against Varma at the Tulluru police station in Guntur district. Telugu Rythu state vice-president Nutalapati Rama Rao filed a complaint on Monday, alleging that Varma had posted morphed, offensive images of Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh on social media. While the Maddipadu police have served Varma with a notice to appear for inquiry, Tulluru police have confirmed that notices in the second case are still pending.
