TIRUPATI: Forest Department officials thwarted an attempt to smuggle high-grade red sanders logs from the Seshachalam forest. The operation, conducted near Silathoranam on Thursday, led to the seizure of 20 logs, weighing 536 kg and worth Rs 21 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, officials set up checkpoints and intercepted a suspicious vehicle. The driver attempted to flee but was apprehended. The logs were confiscated, and the driver, from Tamil Nadu, is under interrogation. Investigations suggest links to a larger smuggling network. This is the first red sanders smuggling case reported in Tirumala in recent years.
