AP inks pact with RIL to set up 500 compressed biogas plants at Rs 65,000 cr

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Reliance Industries to set up a compressed biogas plants at a cost of Rs 65,000 crore.
This would have the potential to generate a revenue of Rs 57,650 crore to the state and employment to an estimated 2.5 lakh people. Energy special chief secretary K Vijayanand and RIL, Mumbai, executive director PMS Prasad signed the MoU in the presence of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu in the Secretariat here on Tuesday.
Naidu stated that AP has turned favorable for investments and the MoU between AP and RIL is a manifestation of how the state is becoming the hub for the speed of doing business.
He promised to appoint IAS officers as escort officers for such major projects to ensure the speedy execution of the projects. Transco joint managing director Kirthii would be the escort officer to the project signed between AP and RIL.
Naidu said the 500 compressed biogas plants would be set up in three years with each plant costing Rs 130 crore.
The project would generate direct or indirect employment to 2.5 lakh people. It would help AP earn huge revenue while the environment would be projected. The chief minister promised to arrange solid waste treatment plants also, so that gas could be generated from them.
RIL representatives expressed their intent to set up plants for generation of gas through municipal solid waste also.
Naidu said the government had come up with a clean energy policy-2024, with a target to attract investment worth Rs 10 lakh crore. “We are also contemplating to set up a clean energy university.”
Claiming that the clean energy policy would give good results, Naidu said, “We are also encouraging solar, wind and pumped energy.”
Referring to his previous call for a ‘One Family-One Industrialist’ goal for AP, Naidu said the state would come up with new inventions through the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub. He sought the support from the RIL to realise this vision.
Chairman of the cabinet sub-committee to generate 20 lakh jobs, minister Nara Lokesh said that out of the 2,000 compressed biogas plants proposed across the country, 500 plants were coming up in AP.
He termed this a good development and promised all help to the RIL to set up the plants.Power minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the RIO would set up plants in eight districts. The first plant would come up at Kanigiri in Prakasam district.
