Kurnool: The famed Shiva temple at Sangameswaram in Nandyal district, submerged under Krishna waters for six to seven months annually, surfaced on Monday. Priests performed Abhishekam and other rituals to resume daily worship.
The Vepadaru Sivalingam at the Sangameshwara Swamy Temple in Kothapalli mandal was submerged in the backwaters of the Srisailam reservoir on July 23. Before its submersion, priests performed sacred ceremonies, including Abhishekam with water from seven rivers and Mangala Harathi, to invoke divine blessings.
The temple, a revered Saivite shrine, remains inaccessible during the southwest monsoon when the Srisailam reservoir fills. For safety, temple authorities restrict devotee movements during this period.
With the water levels now receding, the temple deity, Lord Shiva, became visible, and rituals were resumed on Monday. Full accessibility for darshan will follow as water levels continue to drop.
