Anantapur: The Supreme Court has issued notices to Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy in connection with a petition filed by Dr Sunitha, seeking the cancellation of his bail in the murder case of her father, former MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy. A bench led by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna examined the petition in which Dr Sunitha alleged that Avinash Reddy and his associates were threatening witnesses in the case.
Siddartha Luthra, representing the deceased's daughter, informed the Supreme Court that Avinash Reddy, who is accused and listed as A8 in the murder case, played a key role in the crime. Luthra further highlighted that Dr Chaitanya Reddy, the son of another accused, Shivashankar Reddy, visited the district prison under the guise of conducting health check-ups for prisoners. During this visit, he allegedly threatened Sheik Dastagiri, who had turned approver in the case, urging him to give a statement against the CBI.
When the Supreme Court bench questioned whether Dr Chaitanya Reddy was a regular doctor at the prison, Luthra clarified that he was not, and his visit had been unauthorised, violating prison norms. Luthra urged the bench to include Dr Chaitanya Reddy and the state government as respondents in the case. The bench agreed and issued notices to both Avinash Reddy and Dr
Chaitanya Reddy.
The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for the first week of March 2025.
