Scrap trader shot dead, another battling for life

On Sunday morning, a group of unidentified persons from a nearby hillock rushed to their huts, shot at the traders and fled.

Anantapur: A scrap trader was shot dead by rivals at Madhavaram village in Rayachoti mandal in Annamayya district on Sunday. His associate, who was shot at, is battling for life at the RIMS Hospital in Kadapa.

Police identified the victim as Hanumanthu, 50, and the survivor as Ramana, 30.

Sources said, Hanumanthu and Ramana had set up huts in an open place between Madhavaram and Katimayakunta in Rayachoti mandal for their business.

On Sunday morning, a group of unidentified persons from a nearby hillock rushed to their huts, shot at the traders and fled. The duo was shifted to the RIMS Hospital where Hanumanthu died during treatment.

People alerted Rayachoti police who rushed to the spot and informed neighbouring police stations to nab the gang. Rayachoti DSP Krishna Mohan said investigation is on to find out the reasons for the attack. He suspected business rivalry to be the cause of the murder.
