Anantapur:The Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) is facing a bad time with four key posts including commissioner, additional commissioner, town planning officer and also secretary posts lying vacant. Lack of execution at all levels led to poor sanitation and other maintenance issues in the city. Regular municipal commissioner Nagaraju went on a long leave on December 15 while additional commissioner Ramalingeswar was made in-charge commissioner. Following pressure and poor cooperation, he reportedly went on a long leave three days ago.

Both were not showing interest to work in the AMC and reportedly tried to get transferred to other corporations. Even other officials do not show

interest to take charge as in-charge commissioner. The post of town planning officer is also lying vacant as the assistant city planner (ACP)

Sreenivasulu went on a one month leave. The surveyor post is also lying vacant for the past one year and people have to depend on private surveyors for clearances pertaining to survey issues.

In addition, the manager who got deputation as in-charge commissioner for Penukonda Pattana Panchayat was planning to shift to Penukonda.

Soon after collector Dr Vinod Kumar focused on the irregularities and negligence of staff at all levels, the commissioners reportedly failed to

tackle the situation. Further, the rise in unauthorised constructions in all parts under the corporation’s limits has become a major issue even as people were representing the authorities.

Sanitation was badly hit in the corporation after half of the garbage vehicles were taken back by the provider for not paying the monthly charges.

“We are not receiving garbage collection vehicles even after repeated representations to the civic authorities in AP Housing Board Colony,”

Bhaskar Reddy, a social worker, lamented. He was voluntarily involved in cleaning the drains and developing greenery in the area with his own funds. When contacted, AMC health officer Nagaraju said the sanitation department was trying to adjust the available vehicles for garbage collections.
