Anantapur: An engineering student, one of the six who ventured into the Seshachalam forest, died after falling in a pond within the forest under the Railway Kodur police station limits of Annamayya district on Friday night.
A team of six engineering students from Srikalahasti in Tirupati district had gone to a waterfall deep in the forest of Seshachalam on Friday afternoon for a picnic after they came to know about the waterfall.
One of them, Sai Datta, fell into the pond under the waterfall. By the time the other students rescued him, Sai had died. The remaining students then started carrying his body but lost their way in the forest. They tried to contact police but could not get any signal on their mobile phones. They thus spent the night in the forest.
On Saturday morning, they again started water carrying Sai’s body. They finally found a mobile signal at a place, contacted police and shared their location.
Railway Kodur police, along with forest officials, reached the spot and rescued them. Police shifted Sai Datta’s body to Railway Kodur hospital.
The rescued students have expressed their gratitude to forest staff and police for their safe return from the forest.
