Tirupati: A group of spiritual leaders and Swamijis staged a protest in Tirupati on Tuesday, against allegations of adulteration in the renowned Tirumala laddu prasadam. The protest was organised by the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Sadhu Parishad. The Swamijis gathered in large numbers outside the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) administrative building, raising slogans like "Save Tirumala, Save TTD."
They expressed concerns about the alleged use of adulterated ghee in the laddu prasadam, demanding a thorough investigation and immediate action to rectify the issue. The protesters also called for the removal of employees from other religions working in Tirumala temples. They argued that only those aligned with the temple’s faith should hold such positions.
A memorandum was submitted to the TTD executive officer (EO), J. Syamala Rao, outlining their demands. The Sadhu Parishad held former TTD chairmans Y.V. Subba Reddy and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, as well as former EOs K. Jawahar Reddy and A.V. Dharma Reddy, responsible for the alleged adulteration issue.
They demanded strict action against them. The protest was eventually dispersed by the police before the protesters could enter the TTD office. However, the TTD EO, Syamala Rao, invited the Swamijis for discussions. After assurances from the EO that appropriate action would be taken to address their concerns, the protest was called off.
