Vijayawada: The Tadepalli police have registered a case against former minister and YSRC leader Merugu Nagarjuna and his PA, Murali Mohan Reddy, on charges of cheating and sexual harassment following a woman’s complaint on Friday. The police have listed Merugu Nagarjuna as the first accused and his PA as the second, under sections 376, 420, and 506 read with 34 of the IPC.

According to the police, the complainant, from Vijayawada, alleged that she had given Rs 90 lakh to the former minister on his promise of awarding government contracts to her in the Vemuru constituency while he served as a legislator between 2019 and 2024.

In her complaint, she claimed that the minister cheated her after accepting the money and that his PA threatened to kill her if she approached the police to lodge any complaint.

“Based on the woman’s complaint, the Tadepalli police have filed a case against Merugu Nagarjuna and his PA, Murali Mohan Reddy, and a detailed investigation will be conducted,” said Tadepalli Circle Inspector (CI) Bthula Kalyan Raju to the Deccan Chronicle.

Meanwhile, Merugu Nagarjuna asserted that he has no connection with the woman who lodged the complaint against him at the Tadepalli police station and described the allegations as baseless.

Nagarjuna stated that he would personally meet the Guntur SP to request a thorough investigation into the matter and would file private cases if necessary to uncover the conspiracy behind the allegations aimed at tarnishing his image.
