AP Targets Investment of 10,000 Crore and Creation of 2 Lakh Jobs
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government would come up with a new textile policy that aims at attracting Rs 10,000 crore in investment and creating two lakh jobs.
Announcing this, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said this would boost industrial development. “Our focus will also be on creating large-scale employment opportunities for women through setting up of a host of garment factories,” he said.
The draft policy was approved by the CM at a meeting in the secretariat on Tuesday.
Naidu discussed the details of the new policy with officials and said, “We would motivate weaving, processing, garment manufacturing and integrated textile units.”
As part of the policy, he said, the state would increase capital subsidies and offer additional incentives for people from the SC-ST-BC communities, minorities and women.
“The new textile policy should surpass the previous 2018-2023 policy and aim to make AP a prime destination for textile manufacturing. The new policy would not only spur industrial growth but also provide employment opportunities, especially for women in rural areas,” he said.
The draft policy would be presented before the state cabinet for its approval. Naidu also reviewed the state's leather policy, suggesting that more efforts be made for its effective implementation.
