Vijayawada: Union minister of state for rural development and communications Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, inspected the ongoing construction of the Vijayawada West Bypass on Tuesday. His visit aimed to assess progress and address any delays in the project’s implementation.

Dr Chandrasekhar highlighted that underpasses were planned every two kilometres as per National Highway Authority regulations. However, the previous Telugu Desam government had approved one underpass every kilometre, enhancing public transport access. He lamented that after the current government took office, these permissions were overturned, and the original plans continued, causing delays.

The Union MoS pointed out that ten underpasses had been proposed for the bypass and were scheduled for completion by April. However, due to the government's decisions, the project is now delayed by a year and a half. Dr Chandrasekhar criticised the Chief Minister for lacking administrative foresight, wasting public funds, and time. He assured that discussions with officials and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would take place to resolve issues and avoid further delays.

Dr Chandrasekhar also reviewed proposals for a modern Sankar Vilas Bridge in Guntur with relevant officials.
