Tirupati: The sacred hills of Tirumala are set to glow with divine fervour as the temple observes the ‘Karthika Deepotsavam’ on December 15. As part of the celebrations, hundreds of mud lamps will be lit at various locations within the temple on Sunday evening.

The lighting of the lamps will begin at the ‘Garbha Gruha’ and extend to prominent areas, including the Akhandam of the Sanctum Sanctorum, Kulasekhara Padi, Ramulavari Meda, Garudalwar, Dwarapalakas, all sub-shrines, Bangaru Vakili, Vendi Vakili, Dhwajasthambham, and others.
Outside the temple, lamps will also be lit at the Varaha Swamy temple, Bedi Anjaneya Swamy temple, and Swamy Pushkarini. In view of the festival, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has canceled the Sahasra Deepalankara Seva and the monthly Pournami Garuda Seva.
Following the Deepotsavam, Thiruppavai Pravachanams will be conducted across the country from December 16 to January 13, 2025. These recitals, observed during the auspicious Dhanurmasam, will be held at over 232 centers, including the Annamacharya Kalamandiram in Tirupati.
The Pravachanams will commence in Tirupati on Monday evening at 5:30 PM. Musician Dr. Dwaram Lakshmi will recite one Pasuram (sacred hymn) each day, while Sanskrit scholar Dr. Chakravarthy Ranganathan will explain the essence of the hymns. This annual tradition, organized under TTD’s Alwar Divya Prabandha Project, celebrates the spiritual significance of Andal Sri Godai’s Thiruppavai.
