Tirupati and Nellore police crack down on traffic violations

The police in Tirupati and Nellore districts have launched campaigns against traffic rule violators, with special focus on drunk driving.

In Tirupati, 15 individuals caught driving under the influence of alcohol faced hefty fines, totaling `1,50,000. Each offender was ordered to pay `10,000, as ordered by Judge Grandhi Srinivas of the 4th additional judicial magistrate court.

SP Harshavardhan Raju asked the traffic police to strictly enforce traffic regulations. Traffic DSP Ramana Kumar said action would also be taken against those obstructing movement on the roads and footpaths.

As many as 23 individuals were booked under Section 283 of the IPC conducting business on roadsides. Each was fined `200.

Meanwhile, Nellore district police, led by SP Arif Hafeez, launched a drive against drunk driving. Some 36 cases were registered against drunken drivers across various police station jurisdictions.

Hafeez ordered stringent measures against drunk driving, triple riding and use of vehicles lacking proper documentation or number plates. Those who do not follow rules on seat belts and helmets as also those who drive under influence of alcohol and those not observing speed limits would face police action, he warned.

The SP urged citizens to report illegal activities by calling the toll-free number 112 or contacting local police stations.
