Visakhapatnam:Following the High Court's order, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Saturday demolished illegal structures near Bheemli Beach in Visakhapatnam district constructed by Neha Reddy, the daughter of YSRC Rajya Sabha member Vijaya Sai Reddy. This decision follows a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Jana Sena corporator Peethala Murthy Yadav, which highlighted violations of coastal regulation zone (CRZ) rules.

The illegal construction, spanning approximately four acres, includes a hotel. None of the structures were developed with environmental clearances. The High Court's order comes after GVMC officials began demolishing these structures two weeks ago, under the court's directive issued on September 1, 2024. The court has also ordered that the costs associated with the demolition be recovered from Neha Reddy.

GVMC officials initiated the demolition process on September 4, with assistant town planning officer B. Srinivasa Rao overseeing the operation.

The demolition targetted concrete pillars and walls associated with the hotel project. Police were present to ensure order during the demolition, which was reported to be proceeding smoothly. GVMC commissioner P. Sampath Kumar stated that this action was taken in response to concerns raised regarding CRZ regulations.

The High Court confirmed these violations and directed swift action against the illegal structures. Jana Sena corporator Murthy Yadav noted that demolitions had taken place under Vijaya Sai Reddy's supervision in 2020 but many new unauthorised constructions have com up since then.
