Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) will soon begin developing smart roads under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, covering 17 kilometers across three circles in the city.
Following the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, VMC Commissioner HM Dhanachandra conducted a drone survey on Saturday to assess the feasibility of the smart road project.
Dhanachandra explained that the smart roads will not only improve road quality but also generate revenue by allowing businesses to operate along these roads. The contractor responsible for constructing the roads will also maintain them for 12 months.

The drone survey focused on critical factors such as potholes, road dividers, paver blocks, footpaths, and underground drainage systems. The planned smart roads will span 7.3 kilometers in Circle I, covering BRP Road, KT Road, Nehru Road, Kummaripalem, and Sitaram Centre. In Circle II, the roads will extend 6.2 kilometers along BRTS Road, Sambamurthy Road, GS Raju Road, and Kandrika Junction. In Circle III, the smart roads will cover 4.14 kilometers along HT Line Road, Guru Nanak Colony Main Road, and Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road.
