Hyderabad: Hundreds of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) employees took to the streets on Monday, demanding the merger of the beleaguered steelmaker with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The rally culminated at the Vizag collectorate.
Riders on motorcycles led the procession, showcasing the strength and unity of the workforce. The employees raised slogans emphasising the urgent need for the merger, citing it as the only viable solution to revive VSP's fortunes and secure their livelihoods.
Beyond the merger, a key demand centered on the erratic payment of salaries. Employees expressed deep frustration over the inconsistent and often delayed disbursement of their wages, impacting their financial stability and well-being.
The rally underscored the growing discontent among VSP employees. With the plant facing significant financial challenges and production disruptions, the workers fear for their jobs and the future of VSP. They believe that a merger with SAIL, a government-owned behemoth in the steel sector, would provide the necessary financial and operational support to revitalise the ailing plant.
