VSU Convocation: Governor Nazeer stresses need to ally curricula with needs of society

Tirupati: Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, who is Chancellor of Vikrama Simhapuri University, has stressed the importance of aligning academic curricula with the evolving needs of society and equipping students with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to promote the nation's progress.

Presiding over the eighth and ninth annual convocations of VSU on the university campus in Nellore on Wednesday, Governor Nazeer said the nation’s vision of development mandated a strategic synergy of higher education courses with the evolving exigencies of the society.

"In order to remain competitive and relevant in this digital age, higher education institutions must embrace digital transformation, technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI)," he said.

The Governor lauded the VSU for its interdisciplinary research aimed at addressing societal challenges by leveraging the abundant natural resources in its surroundings. He also appreciated the university's efforts in extending the outcomes of its research initiatives to neighbouring villages, thereby contributing to their overall development and well-being.

Congratulating the graduates, postgraduates, research scholars and gold medal awardees for their outstanding achievements, the governor urged them to embrace traditional values that emphasize compassion, integrity and respect. He commended the university's commitment to societal welfare through its outreach programmes, including community development, the College-to-Village, the Lab to Land, and the social awareness initiatives.

Earlier, vice chancellor Prof. G.M. Sundaravalli presented the university's annual report. G Sateesh Reddy, scientific adviser to the Union defence ministry, as the chief guest, delivered the keynote address. EC Vinay Kumar, senior consultant and coordinator, ENT department at Apollo Hospitals, was conferred the Honoris Causa during the convocation.
