Kurnool: Power minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Saturday said he aims to make Andhra Pradesh the leader in non-conventional power generation in the country with focus on solar and wind power.

On the day, he inaugurated a four-megawatt solar power plant at Marella in Mundlamuru mandal in Prakasam. He expressed his intent to establish many more solar power plants, highlighting that solar power generation reduces carbon emissions.
The minister also noted that the central government is providing incentives for solar power generation in rural areas through the PM Kusum (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme.
He criticised the previous government, alleging that it failed to produce even 100 megawatts of solar power. Gottipati assured that the current government is committed to meeting public and industrial electricity needs and is taking steps to generate power from solar, wind, and waste management plants, following instructions from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Parchur MLA Yeluri Sambasiva Rao, Darsi TDP in-charge Dr. Gottipati Lakshmi and others attended the inauguration.
The solar plant which spans 18 acres was completed in just 80 days. It is currently connected to the Marella substation and will later be integrated into the grid, according to officials.
