Woman dies following diarrhoea outbreak, 34 hospitalised

KAKINADA: A 34-year-old woman Doddi Nagamani died and 34 others have been hospitalised after an outbreak of diarrhoea at Komanapalli village in Thondangi mandal of Kakinada district.
The village has been reporting diarrhoea cases since June 12. It reported 20 cases on Friday, when Nagamani died due to severe diarrhoea.
Medical and Health officials have set up a medical camp at the village and 10 patients have been shifted to Government General Hospital in Kakinada.
Inquiries revealed that outbreak of diarrhoea in the village started after its residents attended a function and ate prawns.
District panchayat officer K.B. Sowjanya told Deccan Chronicle that Rural Water Supply department officials have tested water in the village but found no contamination of water. However, she said, a thorough study would be carried out to find out the cause of the outbreak.
District medical and health officer G. Narasimha Naick said one ANM (auxiliary nurse midwife) and one ASHA (accredited social health activist) have been deployed for every 50 houses to bring the diarrhoea outbreak under control. He maintained that the medical camp in the village will continue for another 10 days, till the diarrhoea is under control.
