Visakhapatnam: A 24-year-old pregnant woman diagnosed with blood cancer successfully gave birth to a healthy baby at the King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam.

Aruna Kumari, hailing from Palasa in Srikakulam district, underwent blood tests during her seventh month of pregnancleading to the diagnosis of blood cancer.
Doctors there referred her to KGH, where specialists in the Medical Oncology department initiated timely treatment for thrombocytopenia under the Aarogyasri programme, thus improving her blood platelet count.
During the ninth month of her pregnancy, gynaecologists at KGH performed a caesarean section to deliver the baby in a healthy condition.
The medical team that treated her included KGH superintendent Dr. P. Shivanand, Medical Oncology head Dr. Shilpa, and gynaecologists Dr. Soumini, Dr. Ravindra and Dr. Sharmila.
