Visakhapatnam: A special “Women Safety Cell” was inaugurated in Anakapalli district on Wednesday by collector Vijaya Krishnan, under the supervision of district SP M. Deepika at the district police office. This initiative aims to enhance the protection of women and children.

In her inaugural address, the collector highlighted that the cell will function as a supplementary female police station and expressed pride in the fact that key leadership positions, including the minister, collector, joint collector, and SP, are held by women. She emphasised her honour in participating in the event.

The collector also engaged with women's welfare secretaries, urging them to implement extensive awareness programmes to combat domestic violence, child marriage, and other crimes, aiming to foster societal change. Following her speech, she released campaign posters addressing crimes against women and distributed them to the village women welfare secretaries.

The SP stressed the importance of conducting awareness programmes on laws affecting women, such as the POCSO Act, and issues like good touch and bad touch, ragging, domestic violence, and cybercrimes. She announced that these campaigns would soon be rolled out in schools, colleges, and workplaces. Additionally, she mentioned that counselling sessions for affected women would be organised, and patrolling in sensitive areas would be enhanced to address harassment and violence against women and girls.

In case of emergencies involving violence or ragging, the SP assured that immediate assistance would be available from the women police. She also noted that women police officers would receive training from relevant experts, reinforcing their support for women. The SP acknowledged the contribution of St. Gobain's organisation, which provided computers, printers, and other materials through CSR funds, enhancing the resources available for women's protection.
