Anantapur:A special team of Kadapa police detained YSRC social media activist Varra Ravindra Reddy at the Telangana border on Friday while he was allegedly fleeing from Kurnool district. Reddy, who had escaped from police custody days earlier, led to swift action by the government, resulting in the transfer of Kadapa SP Harshavardhan Raju to headquarters and appointing Annamaiah SP as acting Kadapa SP.

In connection with Reddy’s escape, an inspector was suspended, and action is pending against two more inspectors and 11 constables who reportedly facilitated his escape by serving him notices instead of detaining him over pending cases.

Sources indicated that Reddy was attempting to reach Hyderabad when he was tracked and detained by police teams. The activist, known for inflammatory social media posts targeting figures like CM Chandrababu Naidu, the Deputy CM, the Home Minister, and YS Vijayamma and Sharmila, has a record of 30 cases against him, including seven from Annamaiah district.

The incident has drawn serious attention from Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and DGP D. Thirumala Rao, who stressed the importance of apprehending Reddy.
