Vijayawada: Former YSRC legislator, T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu, has asked why Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu did not seek the Special Category Status for AP during his meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi.

“Naidu must pressurise the Centre for SCS by making good use of the present opportunity wherein his party is part of the central government,” he said while addressing the media here on Friday.

“It has been a month since the Telugu Desam came to power. The people are waiting for implementation of the TD-led alliance’s poll promises,” he said.

Welcoming the meeting the chief minister held with PM Modi and Union ministers, Sudhakar Babu said, “We demand that every right of AP should be pressed with and taken from the Centre including SCS.”

He said former CM, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, had “kept the issue of SCS alive” in the past five years by frequently seeking it during his every visit to Delhi. “Why is Chandrababu not asking for this when Bihar’s Nitish Kumar is demanding SCS,” he asked.

Sudhakar said Chandrababu was now turning the NDA wheel. People believe that Naidu has the power to achieve SCS now. He must apply pressure on the Modi government to get this for AP.”

He alleged that the TD-led government, while implementing the `7,000 social security pension, showed discrimination by refusing the hiked pensions to Dalits who supported the YSRC in the last elections. The YSRC government did not show any bias in providing welfare, he noted, and urged the TD government to provide welfare to all on a saturation basis.
