Vijayawada: A fisherman suffered minor burns on his body when hot gruel fell on his body while preparing food in a boat located at about 94 nautical miles off Kakinada coast on Tuesday.

According to Kakinada port police, a team of 12 fishermen with six from Visakhapatnam and six from Chennai set sail on a boat for fishing from N9 Fishing Harbour in Chennai on July 25.

In the course of fishing in the sea, a fisherman hailing from Visakhapatnam started preparing food on a stove in the boat. However, as the sea was rough with high tides, hot gruel fell on him when he was cooking rice causing minor burns on his chest and hands.

The fishermen immediately alerted the boat owner about the development and subsequently, the Indian Coast Guard was alerted which in turn rescued the injured fisherman and brought him to the government hospital for treatment in Kakinada.
