AP: Junior Doctors to Continue Stir Today
Visakhapatnam: Junior doctors and medical students in Visakhapatnam continued their protests against the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
They staged a rally on Sunday at the Gandhi statue near the GVMC in Visakhapatnam, marking the third consecutive day of demonstrations. Participants, including members of the public and children, wore black to symbolize their grief and anger over the incident.
The protests began early in the morning with a rally at RK Beach where demonstrators gathered from 6 am to 8 am. The IMA has called for these actions to demand justice and highlight the urgent need for improved safety measures for medical professionals.
Sivananada, the superintendent of KGH, expressed support for the cause while assuring that emergency services and inpatient care would not be disrupted during the protests.
In a show of solidarity, protests are set to continue on Monday, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. The rally will emphasize the need to protect women in the country, particularly in light of the tragic events surrounding the Kolkata doctor.
