AP Minister Anita Leads Saree Walk on Vizag Beach Road
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam hosted a vibrant handloom saree walk on Sunday along the Beach Road ahead of the National Handloom Day on Wednesday, August 7.
The Spirit of Vizag Society organised the walk, aimed at honouring India's rich handloom heritage and promoting walking among women.
Home minister Vangalapudi Anita stole the limelight by leading the saree walk on the Beach Road. Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, she underlined that the first thing that India is known for is the saree.
“In particular, handloom sarees have a special identity. Motherhood is best reflected in the saree. Future generations will continue this tradition," Anita stated.
She acknowledged that the handloom sector is passing through a difficult time. “It takes a handloom worker almost 20 days to weave a saree. We will extend to them all welfare schemes,” she assured
The event saw enthusiastic participation from women and young girls. They donned their handloom sarees and joined the three-kilometre walk. A special attraction was a 1,000-meter handloom saree on display, which contributed to the grandeur of the occasion.
