Hyderabad: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the state government would start work on the Uppal flyover, unfinished after six years, and complete the work in 18 months if the Centre failed to do so.

The failure to complete the work in six years was an insult to the people, he said and charged BRS leaders K. Chandrashekar Rao and K.T. Rama Rao with ignoring the flyover while concentrating on the Kaleshwaram project for commissions.

He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had sought reports on the Uppal flyover 10 times. Delays in getting permission for demolition of structures, forest clearance and shortage of labour as they returned to their native places during the Covid-19 lockdown, were stated as the reasons for the delay, Venkat Reddy said.

“The Centre did not consider these difficulties and failed to provide financial assistance. We asked Union minister Nitin Gadkari for early completion of the project. If they cannot do that we will take it up. We will need another two-three hundred crore (rupees) for completing it,” he said.

“Musi works will start in December. Amberpet flyover work will start in November. Work on widening the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway to six lanes will be completed in three months,” he added.
