Congress Plans Grand Fete to Mark 30 years of Quota for Muslims on August 25
Hyderabad: Hyderabad DCC president Mohammed Waliullah Sameer said that the Congress would organise a series of events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the introduction of Muslim reservations in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, It will culminate with large event on August 25 and have the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The first government order (GO Ms No 30) proposing reservation for Muslims was issued on August 25, 1994, by the Congress government of Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy. It provided reservation for Muslims along with 14 other backward classes.
Waliullah said that over 20 lakh poor Muslims had benefited from the four per cent reservation in education, local bodies elections and jobs.
"The BC-E reservation in local bodies led to the election of Muslims,” he said and highlighted the role of Mohammed Ali Shabbir, government adviser, in securing separate reservation for Muslims.
