TIRUPATI: The Chittoor district administration has suspended 11 ration dealers and three mobile dispensing units (MDU) operators for violating the model code of conduct during the ongoing election campaign.

The action comes after complaints and subsequent inquiries confirmed their active participation in campaigning and related activities. District collector and election officer S. Shan Mohan issued the suspension orders to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

The district social welfare officer, Shankaran, assured that alternative arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to cardholders through nearby dealers and MDU operators.

This action follows another incident in April when the civil supplies department withheld salaries of 30 MDU operators for failing to properly distribute essential items to beneficiaries.
