Files Stolen from Water Supply Office in Palasa
Visakhapatnam: Thieves stole files from the old office of the Kasibugga sub-rural water supply in Palasa mandal. Among the stolen items are old files containing details such as contractor's bills and M. Book records. These items were sold to individuals purchasing old papers at a nominal rate of Rs 3 per kilo.
The office building of the water supply, situated adjacent to Palasa mandal parishad office, has fallen into disrepair. Consequently, the primary rural water supply office was relocated to Anakapalle by the previous administration where officials have since fulfilled their duties.
The old office has remained unused for the past year with officials having secured and locked away old files relating to rural water supply and engineering work. In this background, the files were stolen by petty thieves who broke into the vacant office through a rear window, retrieved the old files and sold them at a junk shop.
Engineering officials promptly lodged a complaint with the authorities. Subsequently, police and officials investigated the junk shop where the sold files were recovered and confiscated before being transported to the head office.
