Bengaluru: A police constable allegedly stabbed his wife with a sharp weapon inside the Superintendent of Police office building in Hassan on Monday and the victim died at a hospital unable to respond to the treatment. The constable has been taken into custody by the police. The parents of the deceased alleged dowry harassment charge against the police constable.

The police constable identified as Loknath attached to CPI office in Shantigrama of Hassan and his wife as Mamatha. The couple were married 17 years back. Lokantha belonged to K.R. Puram in Hassan town and Mamatha a resident of Channapatna on the outskirts of Hassan town. The couple have two sons.

It is said that the couple were engaged in heated exchange of words for the past couple of days and the argument took an ugly turn on Monday when Mamatha decided to approach the Hassan SP with a complaint against her husband. Loknath is said to have stalked her to the office.

At the SP’s office building, Loknath is alleged to have stabbed his wife in the chest and noticing the ghastly incident, fellow policemen rushed Mamatha to the nearby District Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and that she did not respond to the treatment. Lokanath was taken into custody.

Mamatha’s father Shyamanna told reporters that his daughter was harassed by son-in-law for dowry and demanded a site and cash. He said he had asked her daughter to lodge a complaint against the harassment but she refused to act against her husband. Hassan police have registered a case.
