Bengaluru: Man extorts crores from girlfriend using private videos, arrested

A 22-year-old man was arrested by the Bengaluru police for allegedly threatening his girlfriend with circulating her private videos and extorting over Rs 2.5 crores.

According to media reports, the accused, identified as Mohan Kumar, was in a relationship with the victim (20) for sometime. Both of them knew each other from school. Going out of contact after schooling, they reconnected a few years later and started dating.
Kumar started taking her out on trips and recorded her intimate videos promising her to keep them private.
He even promised to marry her.
Soon, the accused started blackmailing her with videos and demanded hefty ransome. Terrified, the woman transferred Rs 2.57 crore to him, the police said.
The young woman sent Rs 1.25 crore from her grandmother's bank account, and handed over Rs 1.32 crore in cash on various occasions.
He did not stop there as he went on to demand luxury gifts like watches, jewellery and cars, which the woman obliged.
Unable to tolerate further blackmail, the woman finally approached the police. On the complaint, the blackmailer was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and was arrested.
In addition, the cops recovered Rs 80 lakhs from the accused.
