BJP Launches Campaign Against Karnataka Govt over Waqf Issue
Bidar: BJP state president BY Vijayendra launched the party’s statewide campaign against the Congress-led Karnataka government on the Waqf issue under the slogan ‘Namma Bhoomi, Namma Hakku’ (Our Land, Our Right). The movement commenced in Bidar, Karnataka's northernmost district, and is set to cover all districts in the state.
Addressing a rally, Vijayendra accused Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, allegedly acting on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s instructions, of initiating steps to declare farmers’ lands as Waqf properties. “Why are you targeting farmers and Hindus, Siddaramaiah?” Vijayendra questioned, alleging that even ancient temples were being served notices and entire villages were being displaced under the guise of the Waqf Act. He claimed that farmers, who have cultivated these lands for generations, were being harassed, forcing them to the brink of protests.
Assuring farmers of BJP’s full support, Vijayendra declared that the party would oppose the government’s actions. He stated that former CM BS Yediyurappa had directed the BJP to stand firmly with farmers and fight against the Congress government’s alleged anti-farmer policies. “We will take to the streets if necessary to protect the interests of farmers and ensure justice. BJP is with you, and we will teach this anti-farmer government a lesson,” he said.
Vijayendra also highlighted the BJP’s earlier campaigns against alleged corruption in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the Valmiki Development Corporation. He recalled that Siddaramaiah initially denied any misappropriation but later admitted in the assembly about misappropriation of Rs 87 crore. Similarly, in the MUDA issue, he pointed out that the Chief Minister’s wife returned 14 sites following BJP-led protests.
“Power is not permanent,” Vijayendra reminded the Congress government, commending Yediyurappa for continuing to work for farmers even after stepping down as Chief Minister.
