SHIGGAON: Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has expressed confidence that BJP candidate Bharath Bommai will win by more than 50,000 votes.

"The crowd gathered here is proof enough that he will surely win by more than 50,000 votes. If he doesn’t, then do not call me Yediyurappa,” he said while addressing a rally in Shiggaon on Sunday.

Yediyurappa urged BJP workers to campaign tirelessly, saying, “If Bharath Bommai receives even one vote less than that, it will feel like my personal defeat. You must go door-to-door and convince people.”

Challenging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Yediyurappa asked him to name a single constituency he was confident of winning in the by-elections. “Your true colors will be revealed after the election,” he added.

Yediyurappa also vowed to protest if the government fails to release the maturity bond money for the Bhagyalakshmi scheme beneficiaries promptly.

“It was your Yediyurappa who launched the Bhagyalakshmi scheme for the first time in the country. Now, even though the bonds have matured, this bankrupt government is not releasing the money. If It is not done within a week, we will launch statewide protests,” he warned.

He alleged that all pro-people programs and developmental works in Karnataka had come to a standstill and accused the government of corruption and mismanagement.

Speaking earlier at a roadshow in Hulagur and Tadas villages, Yediyurappa asked Siddaramaiah if he would resign if the BJP secures victory in three constituencies in the by-elections.
