Kalaburagi: BJP State President BY Vijayendra launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Karnataka, accusing it of mismanaging welfare schemes, failing to initiate development projects, and grappling with an internal power struggle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

Speaking at a press conference in Kalaburagi on Thursday, Vijayendra questioned the Congress-organized Janakalyan Convention in Hassan.

"What does Janakalyan mean?" Vijayendra asked.

Referring to the ongoing Janakalyan event in Hassan, Vijayendra claimed it was a platform for Siddaramaiah to assert his political dominance.

"This program is nothing but a façade. No new schemes have been introduced for the state’s development. Without proper funding, MLAs are struggling to carry out constituency work," he said.

He further alleged that Siddaramaiah was using the convention to assert his dominance and resist internal pressures to step down.

"Siddaramaiah is leveraging his victory in the three by-elections to hold on to power, while DK Shivakumar is waiting for his turn, claiming a 50 percent role in bringing the government to power. There is a struggle for the Chief Minister’s chair, and Siddaramaiah must clarify the details of their internal agreement," Vijayendra demanded.

Vijayendra also accused the Congress of misusing welfare guarantees for electoral gains. "During the Lok Sabha elections, they released guarantee funds just three days before voting and then conveniently forgot about them. Again, during the assembly by-elections, they suddenly remembered these guarantees. This approach insults the poor and disrespects the concept of guarantees," he said.

Taking a dig at the Congress’s Yuva Nidhi scheme, Vijayendra questioned its implementation. "Which minister is even talking about Yuva Nidhi?" he asked. Highlighting infrastructural shortcomings, he added, "In constituencies like Shikaripura, there aren’t even adequate government buses for school students."

Addressing the issues faced by farmers, Vijayendra brought attention to the destruction of 2-3 lakh acres of pigeon pea crops in the region. He demanded compensation of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 per acre for the affected farmers. "This is the expectation of the people, and the government must act swiftly to fulfill it," he urged.

Vijayendra also attacked the Congress on issues related to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam and Waqf Board notices. "The Chief Minister initially denied any scam but later returned the land. During the ED’s investigation, instances of forgery and manipulation have come to light," he alleged.

Highlighting the Waqf Board notices issued to farmers, he cited an incident in Chatnalli village, where an entire community received notices. "This has created widespread fear, and the BJP has initiated protests to support the farmers," Vijayendra said.
