Hubballi: Haveri MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has predicted that growing public discontent with the Congress government in Karnataka will be evident in the upcoming by-elections.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Bommai criticized the state government over the controversial Waqf property notices issued to farmers, which, he said, has fueled public outrage. He claimed that backlash forced the government into a “U-turn” on the issue.
“If the government had not made a mistake, why would they retract the notices issued to farmers?” Bommai questioned.
He pointed out that Waqf Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan stated that the notices were issued under instructions from the Chief Minister and that District Administrations had acted on the directives of the state government.
“This government is in a way a 'U-turn government.' It takes U-turns in every matter—acquiring sites and then retracting in MUDA scam, misusing funds from the Valmiki Corporation and re-depositing the money, and now, issuing and then retracting notices over Waqf properties,” he alleged and added that the public sees through these actions.
