House Committee On Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill Soon, Says Dy CM Shivakumar

On the Bill, he asked the opposition leaders to send in their representatives to constitute the House Committee on Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill and said sooner the better in forming the House Committee. “We are open for discussion, let us know your thoughts on the Bill,” said the Deputy Chief Minister and pointed out Bengaluru city is changing fast and we need to initiate a quick action to bring orderliness to it.

He chaired meeting of elected representatives cutting across party lines in Vidhana Soudha to elicit their views on development of Bengaluru city and at the meeting, he asked “Let’s leave our politics at the booth levels and join hands to build a better Bengaluru” and told the meeting the copy of the Bill tabled in the Assembly is available to hold a debate on it. “We are welcome to your feedback on the Bill,” added the Bengaluru city incharge minister.

He said migrants are settling in Bengaluru city in large numbers considering conducive weather conditions, human resources, culture and availability of technology and influx of people to Bengaluru city has resulted in its growth and pointed out Bharatiya Janata Party during their rule included as many as 110 villages around Bengaluru within the purview of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike but providing basic amenities hasn’t happened particularly supply of water.

He felt ground water recharge is the option and addressing garbage and smooth vehicular movements are other major issues of the Bengaluru city.

On the construction of the sky deck in Bengaluru, Shivakumar gave the reason for the sky deck to develop it as a tourist destination in Bengaluru city. “There are no tourist attractions other than Vidhana Soudha in the city and Nehru planetarium is for kids and nothing much attractions for the people to visit,” he added.

Earlier this month, the Army foiled several infiltration bids along the LoC in Kashmir Valley’s Kupwara district and the Jammu region’s Poonch-Rajouri belt by killing, at least, half a dozen militants soon after they had breached the fence.

On July 23, Lance Naik Subash Chander laid down his life while fighting infiltrating militants after they breached the LoC and sneaked into J & K from PoJK in the Battal area of Poonch district.

This was followed by a fierce gunfight between a group of militants and the security forces at Trimukha Top in Kupwara’s Kowut area-also close to the LoC- in which a Non-Commissioned Officer of the Indian Army Dilawar Khan and a militant were killed.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday visited forward areas along the LoC in the Kashmir Valley’s Keran sector which witnessed, at least, two back-to-back infiltrations bids earlier this month to review the security situation. The Army Chief, apart from interacting with the officers and jawans defending the Kashmir frontier reviewed the preparedness of the armed forces involved in counter-infiltration and counter-terror operations, officials had said.

General Dwivedi had on July 3, days after taking over as the new Army Chief, overflown the LoC in Poonch district and later closeted with senior military officers at the headquarters of the 93 Infantry Brigade in the strategic town of Poonch and also in Jammu to review the operational preparedness in the J&K frontier.

The Army Chief paid a second visit to Jammu on July 20 amid reports that the Centre has voiced serious concern at the spurt in terror attacks and other violent incidents in the Jammu region. He reviewed the situation at a series of meetings with the local commanders and officers of various law enforcing and counter-terrorism agencies. On that evening, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also chaired a high-level meeting with the Army Chief, various heads of security and law enforcement agencies including Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force and other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the J&K police and various intelligence agencies on the prevailing security situation in the Jammu region.
