IMD Issues Warning for Heavy Rainfall in Karnataka; Precautions Urged

MANGALURU: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall expected over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka in the next five days, with isolated extremely heavy falls predicted for June 8 and 9.

The Southwest monsoon is currently vigorous over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka and normal over South Interior Karnataka. Rainfall has been recorded at most places in South Interior Karnataka and at many locations in both Coastal and North Interior Karnataka.

Squally weather, with wind speeds ranging from 45 km/h to 55 km/h and gusts up to 65 km/h, is likely to prevail along and off the Karnataka coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea. According to the Udupi district administration, five houses in Udupi district were partially damaged due to wind and rain, while two houses were partially damaged by lightning.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge has urged the public and farmers in Kalaburagi district to take precautionary measures in light of the red alert issued for June 9 and the orange alert for June 10 and 11. He emphasised that the alerts may change based on weather conditions and advised everyone to stay updated and adhere to the evolving warnings.
