Kalaburagi: A 23-year-old student in Kalaburagi allegedly died by suicide after reportedly incurring heavy losses from online gaming.

The deceased, identified as Somnath Chidri, a final-year student, was found hanging from a tree near the Veerashaiva Hostel, according to sources. Somnath is from an agrarian family.

Police officials stated that his family member stated that he had been deeply distressed after losing a significant amount of money.

The complaint from the parents states that Somnath had lost about Rs 80 lakh, and the financial losses drove him to take the extreme step.

A case has been registered at the Brahmapur police station, and further investigations are underway.

Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa told Deccan Chronicle that parents who suspect their children are involved in online gaming addictions should immediately inform the police.
