Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah calls on Gadkari, seeks approval for Shiradi Ghat tunnel

Mangaluru: A delegation led by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called on Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi seeking approval for several key infra projects including construction of a tunnel through Shiradi Ghat.

The vital project on the Marathalli to Addahole Section of NH-75 (Old NH-48) will significantly improve port connectivity between Mangaluru Port and Bengaluru, enhancing the state's infrastructure and economic growth.

The other projects include an elevated corridor in Belagavi City on the old NH-4, cable car at Gokak Falls in Belagavi District, and improving the road connecting Kittur town to Bailhongal town in Belagavi District.

The chief minister also requested construction of bypasses for Kalaburagi and Raichur.

The state's other demands include a flyover at Manipal Hospital junction in Mysuru City on NH-275, nine grade separators on NH-275K in Mysuru Ring Road to ease traffic congestion, and widening the Belur – Chikmagalur section of NH-373 to a 4-lane road.

Siddaramaiah also called for a one-time improvement of NH-150A within Challakere town limits and the widening of the road from the Kerala/Karnataka border to Kollegal via Gundlupet, Nanjangud, and Mysuru on NH-766 to a four-lane, six-lane road.

Additionally, the Chief Minister sought upgrading several state roads, which have already been given in-principle nod, to National Highways. This includes the route from Kalpetta to Mysore via H.D. Kote and Jayapura, the road from Mysore to NH-948 near Malavalli via Bannur, and the stretch from Sankeshwar to Nargund via Gokak-Yaragatti-Manvalli.

Siddaramaiah expressed gratitude for the approval of several prestigious greenfield corridors in Karnataka, emphasizing that these projects would greatly enhance the state's infrastructure and economic landscape.

He stressed the importance of these initiatives in boosting Karnataka's connectivity and overall economic development.
